I am excited to start using Wiki in my classroom. I like the idea of the electronic portfolio. I also think this is another valuable way to communicate with parents. I came up with numerous ideas on how to use Wiki in my classroom. I would like to use it as an end of the semester assessment, a tool for research, uploading study guides and journals.

I think this is perfect for portfolios. The students could have a space with a page for each grade level. Imagine the power! I have struggled with the secondary idea of a portfolio for years. This is something everyone could use!

I have been keeping a professional electronic portfolio for a number of years now. Frankly, it is a huge amount of work since I have used a web site as the structure for the portfolio. With the advent of wikis and all this other web 2.0 technology, an electronic portfolio is now easier than ever to maintain.

I’m anxious to see how you set up your e-portfolios. Mine at http://www.fuinihetten.wikispaces.com were easy to set up. In retrospect, I wonder if I should have created a template for them to work with instead of just the blank page. It would be just a matter of copy and paste..time consuming, but not too difficult. I am finding I need to do a lot more direct instruction with some of my students. They are tentative to begin. I actually created a cloze activity for a few of them because they were overwhelmed by it all. It is important to realize that these are the brainstorm, draft, edit, publish portions of the writing process all in one spot! The trick is not to bore or limit the ones who do have the creativity and drive. Hmm…
