SMART Board
Click on the comments link below to leave your thoughts on the SMART Board technology and the possibilities for the classroom. I would be very interested in hearing your thoughts so that we may begin some significant discussion on this topic.
I cannot say enough about the SMART Board technology. It stands in high regard based on the fact that it has increased student participation exponentially. It is amazing to watch there interest soar with the addition of this interactive whiteboard. Possiblities are limitless with this technology.
There are so many ideas stuffed in my head as far as what I would love to try and I need to start making a list, because as I learn more and more about the capabilities of interactive whiteboard technology, the ideas grow and change.
It immediately became an integral part of the classroom.
I would love to see more classrooms have SMART Boards so that there could be some collaboration. With collaboration, the ideas would grow even more. We could do even more wonderful things within our district.
I could go on forever on this topic.
I do still have a lot to learn though.Posted by .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on 02/22 at 08:17 PMDiane…Your thoughts above reflect what is so extremely important about implementing this technology - and any technology…HOW it is used by the teacher. The things that I see you doing are demonstrating how the technology can provide something beyond what the regular tools of the classroom can do. But without a skilled teacher, investigating, thinking, experimenting and implementing new and varied ways, the technology would be just another way of doing the same old, same old. I found a number of their applications today to be little more than electronic worksheets with little that was new and innovative. I also thought it ironic that there was a quote in their materials along the lines of “you can teach instead of worrying about the technology.” And what did they start the presentation with? THE TECHNOLOGY…all the technical blah of the tool. SHOW ME EXAMPLES OF HOW IT CAN HELP ME TEACH BETTER AND DIFFERENTLY, first!
Also, I think that you bring up an important point regarding collaboration. I think it would certainly be beneficial - for you, your students, and the district, to be able to collaborate on generating those unique applications of this technology. Thanks for your thoughts….

I don’t want what I do with the whiteboard to be the same old same old with technology. I want to take it beyond that arena. My greatest fear is I won’t be able to use it to its maximum potential.

As I look to the future of my classroom, I would like to integrate SMART Board technology in my class. With your support, I would like to pilot this technology in my classroom during the 07-08 school year. My plan is to use this as my goal for the year and use it to enhance my technology skills. Should this request be granted, I would take the summer to familiarize myself with the product. At the end of the year, I would be happy to share the knowledge that I have gained with my peers so that they may implement it in their classrooms.

~The integration of technology into the learning environment certainly opens the possibilities for student engagement, collaboration, communication beyond the classroom (in time and place), and the “creation” of new ideas and thinking. It is phenomenal how student participation and engagement has increased. I do wonder if that will change, like all things, when the novelty of the whiteboard wears off.
~I believe it is important to focus on the teaching and learning and use technology as it allows us to improve learning in ways that have not been possible and easily attained.Everyone needs to understand that the technology is A means to provide an environment where teaching and learning by all can occur. It is not the only way to provide an active learning/thinking environment. This is not a plug and play piece of equipment. It takes time to learn how to use it and create the lessons. Again, I truly want to take it beyond the electronic worksheets and the modern electronic way we are already teaching. The true belief of lifelong learning comes into play here. Given time, it is my goal to take it beyond the electronic worksheet and do what you have always done. There are many thoughts going through my mind about how to use more than just this form of technology to create the optimum learning envirnoment.
~I do agree that expanding the number of people who are truly interested in technology integration as a component of 21st century learning will provide a wealth of ideas and support for all of us. The possibilities are really exciting.
I am a firm believer in collaboration. We have gained vast amounts of knowledge, changed our thinking and created a strong learning environment through collaboration. The synergy of ideas has created the enhanced learning environments here at Salisbury. Just think what we could achieve.
