Yahoo! Time Capsule
Blog about your contribution to the Yahoo! Time Capsule.
“You’ll be part of history and witness what other are saying and saving. You’ll have your handiwork presented to Smithsonian Folkways Recordings, projected on one of the most famous relics on the planet, AND then beamed along a path of laser light into space. This will definitely be something to email the grandkids about someday.”
This entry references the October 20, 2006 edition of the Instructional Technology Update.
This project astounds me and impresses me. I love the use of computers in the classroom. I also love the fact that in 20 years we’ll be able to look back and reflect on our teenage selves. I think this time capsule submission perfectly combined the use of technology and teaching us to look toward the future while submitting something from the present.
Posted by on 11/03 at 08:15 AMThis project is boring, i do not like using the computers. i like being in the library. Reading is one of my stronger points.
Posted by on 11/03 at 10:02 AMI did a time capsule on beauty. i think that when old couples walk in the park its beautiful. It’s so cute when you’re driving by and you see them holding hands, helping each other along. It’s cute. But using technolgy is NOT cute because I’m horrible at it. When I have to do something with computers, I say “oh no” because computers are so slow and it drives me crazy. The time capsule was fun because you get to express yourself and have it preserved forever. That’s enough.
Posted by on 11/03 at 10:02 AMPutting a picture in the time capsule is something that I will always remember. It’s amazing how I can go back in 20 years and see what I enjoyed doing when I was in high school. It really made me think about the future and make me wonder how much my life will change as I get older.
Posted by on 11/03 at 10:03 AMTime capsule is okay to remember yourself and things. its cool.
Posted by on 11/03 at 10:04 AMWow, I really enjoyed contributing to this time capsule. It is a great experience and I can’t wait to look back in 20 years and reflect on something I had created such a long time ago. this was such a neat idea and im glad I took the time to be part of it. It’s something that will stay part of me as I grow older.
Posted by on 11/03 at 10:05 AMThis project is nice because I can look back in 20 years to reflect on my teenage years.
Posted by on 11/03 at 10:05 AMI really enjoyed this. Its pretty amazing how people used to bury time capsules in the ground and saved them to look at another date but now we have it to look at on the computer where it can be saved in a system where no one can harvest or steal it from you. I’m pretty stoaked to have been a part of this and be able to took back at it down the road to see what I was like when I was a teenager.
Posted by on 11/03 at 10:14 AMThe time capsule is an interesting project. Just knowing that in the future I can show my kids something I did when I was in high school is mind blowing.
Posted by on 11/03 at 10:15 AMI really enjoyed contributing my picture to the time capsule. It’s something I never thought I would do. Actually, the time capsule is something I never even knew existed until English class this year. It is a very creative and unique way to share your memories, beliefs, dreams, or maybe even your future.
I cannot wait to look back at my contribution in 2020.
Posted by on 11/03 at 10:36 AMOn This Night of Halloween
Through this night and this day
The memory that fills inside of me
Her rocking on the porch
As she did every yearEvery time, without fail
On the door step with her bags
Here to help on this sacred night
As did every yearThe joy that it brought
The pain when it stopped
As we lie in wait
As we did every yearThen the year approached
When the end had come
The joy of every ghoul and ghost
StoppedPosted by on 11/03 at 10:37 AMTechnology would be a huge benefit to students in school. It would make things so much easier to do. For example, if you need to do a school project presentation, you have the choice of doing a podcast or even a vcast. This would be a great essential to the learning process because you won’t have to focus on eye contact or standing still, you just record yourself using audio components. Also, laptops would benefit students a lot if they had them to carry around during school. They could use the internet for anything they need during the school day. Hopefully, in the future these technological changes will be made to benefit us all.
Posted by on 11/03 at 10:39 AMI think technolgy is very important in mine and everyone’s life. Technolgy helps us go through the day easier and most of the time, better. Without technolgy, we wouldn’t be doing alot of the stuff we do each day faster. It could take maybe a day for something to get done, while with computers and other technolgy, it could be finished in under an hour. Technolgy plays a very important role in everyone’e everyday life.
Posted by on 11/03 at 10:40 AMI really enjoyed doing this along with all the thousands of other people in the world. I can learn about other cultures past and present throughtout the entire world. Thank You very much for letting me have this experience.
Posted by on 11/03 at 10:41 AMI just want to thank Mrs. Stangerlin for giving us this oppertunity to be a part of something this cool. I would have never thought that i would be in school and on the internet making new friends. It’s such a good experience to go through and prepare us for the future. It also helps that all my friends in class are on this too and i can talk to them through the time capsule if i cannot really reach them any other way. Once again thank you for letting us try this out and see how it turns out for us in the future.
Posted by on 11/03 at 10:43 AMI want to thank Mrs. Stangerlin for letting us do all of these things and letting us try all of these things. Also,I am learning alot more things from what we do in this English class than what I did in the last couple of years and thank you again Mrs. Stangerlin.
Posted by on 11/03 at 10:44 AMI think that the time capsule is really cool. It’s so sweet that I can look back in 20 years at one picture or just a sentence and remember my teenage years. I think that the idea of an online time capsule is great. I’m glad that our class is doing this!
Posted by on 11/03 at 10:44 AMI think this time capsule project is an amazing opportunity. I find it really fun to be able to put memories in a time capsule for 20 years. I’m glad that our class has been able to experience this project.
Posted by on 11/03 at 10:44 AMI think that this time capsule is a really cool thing to do. We can look back on this and see how our lives have changed since we wrote this. Also, we can look back on this and remember our old friends in this English class. Hopefully we will all still be in touch.
Posted by on 11/03 at 11:00 AMIn my time capsule I added a picture from Homecoming. It is amazing to think that in years from now, I will be able to come back and look at a picture that represents some of the fun I had during high school. Probably when I view this picture, years later, I will laugh at what we are wearing. This time capsule is fantastic!
Posted by on 11/03 at 11:27 AMTime Capsule is an amazing project for students and/or young people of today to be involved in. It shows how the world is coming along in technology and gives people a chance, in the future, to take a look back into the past to get a look at how things were now. I believe that it is a great feeling for people to know that they are part of a great leap forward in the technological world. Thanks time capsule!:)
Posted by on 11/03 at 11:29 AMThe yahoo time capsule is pretty amazing. It’s not often that you get to preserve a piece of your memory, your very being, for your posterity to see. We used to bury time capsules in dirt, now we bury them on the web. What is a better use of new technology?
Posted by on 11/03 at 11:29 AMTechnology has come such a long way, and its journey is shown through this very interesting time capsule. I’m looking forward to looking back at what I put in the time capsule 20 years from now. I also enjoyed looking at other contributions into the time capsule. The thought and time put in some of them is very honorable. This was a delightful experience.
Posted by on 11/03 at 11:33 AMThe yahoo time capsule is amazing. I love that we are able to put a piece of ourselves and express it to the world, and that in 20 years we can revisit what we did. This idea is so unconvential and I can’t to see technology in the future.
Posted by on 11/03 at 11:37 AMThe time capsule is an unique experience for students of the high school age where technology is being incorporated more and more each day, each minute, each second.
Thank you for the opprtunity to be a part of history.
Posted by on 11/03 at 11:44 AMI really like the whole idea behind the yahoo time capsule. Instead of actually burying a time capsule that would probably not withstand the natural effects on it over a long period of time, this time capsule makes it quite easy to save your past thoughts in perfect condition forever. The idea that our beliefs are broadcast all over the world is also exciting to me.
Posted by on 11/03 at 11:45 AMI really like the idea of the time capsule project. It is a very unique and creative way to remember peoples past experiences. It is also interesting in that anyone can contribute, and so it brings together a very diverse group of people and their personal memories. The time capsule is a brilliant idea because it uses technology to bring people together and appreciate our thoughts, ideas, and reminiscences.
Posted by on 11/03 at 11:45 AMIt’s not like technology is going to be lost in fourteen years. I mean, I’ll have the photo albums and the home videos, sure-but I know computers will be a much bigger part of peoples’ lives in the future (more so than they are now even!). I can imagine myself in 2020 logging onto the Yahoo Time Capsule and showing my kids what I created and submitted (something that is a part of the Smithsonian!) when I was a teenager in high school. Having the opportunity to be able to look back on this and show my friends and family in the future using technology, which I’m sure will be of great value during that time, means a lot to me. The Time Capsule is such a fun, creative, and cool blend of memories and technology.
Posted by on 11/03 at 11:47 AMI love the Time Capsule idea because I love knowing that I can look back in fourteen years, when technology will be upgraded, and see my life and perspective of fun from when I was in high school(its really important to me and my friends!). The fact that I can see videos and pictures from my friends excites me because it will bring back good memories from Salisbury. I’m not exactly a computer whiz, but I liked the fact that Time Capsule could help me get to be a computer whiz slowly, rather than trying to do it all at once. I’m really glad I got to participate in it, I’ll be looking forward to when I’m 29 to see all these memories. It was a good learning experience, mixed with fun and our future.
Posted by on 11/03 at 11:47 AMThe yahoo time capsule was an enjoyable experience. It will be interesting to come back to it in the future and see how my interests have changed or remained the same. It was also a great opportunity for me to look for something that I enjoy, and then share it with others. The yahoo time capsule will hold our interests for time to come.
Posted by on 11/03 at 11:48 AMI am excited to look at my time capsul in the near future, to show my children what i have done in high school. It is nice knowing I am going to be a part of history. Also it is nice that i will be able to see how technology has progressed. I the time capsul is a good idea and will always remind me of my high school years.
Posted by on 11/03 at 01:06 PMI like the idea of the Yahoo Time Capsule. It’s neat that you can submit anything you want, which makes it even more personal. Chances are in 20 years I will probably forget about this, but I am still glad that I did it.
Posted by on 11/03 at 02:32 PMI like the fact that i might be in an actual time capsule. it was fun, but hitting F11 after i made my contribution took me back to the begining and i had to do it all over again. I did what i liked to do which is play halo 2, since its my favorite thing to do.
Posted by on 11/03 at 02:33 PMwow im angry. i just spilled my guts into an entry for the time capsule that Rj is so excited about. and im excited to, cool concept. Only to have my heart felt entry erased by me simply hitting the “F11” key to make my view bigger. I can’t even put in words how ticked i am. man… this weekend better be awesome.
jenn just sneezed. “bless you”
Posted by on 11/03 at 02:35 PMI think that this project was very fun and made me think about what i really believed in. Thanks Mrs. S
Posted by on 11/04 at 05:53 PMI really like the idea behind this online time capsule. It is an interesting thing to look back on years from now. Your memories have been preserved for everyone to see across the world.
I didn’t really like contributing though, because what I intially wanted to contribute could not be sent into the Time Capsule. When I chose a different picture to contribute, it took an extremely long time for Yahoo to verify my contribution and I was starting to lose patience. Eventually it was received and now my picture can be viewed by anyone.

Posted by on 11/05 at 05:27 PMThis was a great experience. I think it was a great thing to do as a school. 20 years from now we can look back at this and remember the times we had as teenagers by seeing these submissions. In 20 years, it will be great to show my kids and family the people I was friends with and what kind of things I did in high school. We will be able to remember what kind of people we went to high school with. This was a great project.
Posted by on 11/05 at 09:16 PMI really like the idea of this time capsule. I think it will be a great experience when I can look back on this in the year 2020 and remember what was important to me in high school. And since we all used Salisbury as a tag, it will be interesting to go back and remember all of our friends.
Posted by on 11/05 at 09:17 PMThe idea behind this time capsule is a nice one, and I enjoyed preserving a personal memory of mine. The problem with this digital time capsule is that it is so cold and impersonal. It was nothing like a real time capsule at all. Computers are amazing machines, but I do not think that they should be used just for the sake of performing tasks digitally.
Posted by on 11/05 at 09:24 PMI loved doing this project. It really made me realize how many people are in my life and are always there when i need them. It’s really cool that i can go back 20 years from now and see what my life was like when I was in high school.
Posted by on 11/05 at 09:52 PMI did the time capsule program and i enjoyed it very much. I really like how we use computers in the class room, i love technology.
Posted by on 11/06 at 08:25 AMI really enjoyed creating my piece in the time capsule. I was really excited to do it just to see what it would look like. I hope that in 20 years I look back and remember this.
Posted by on 11/06 at 08:48 AMDoing this time capsule was a fun experience. It made me really think about what I love and how I feel. I am excited to look back in 20 years and see how different I was and how my feelings changed.
Posted by on 11/06 at 09:10 AMI enjoyed this project very much. It is really cool how in 20 years I will be able to go back and look and what my friends and I were discussing and involved when we were young.
Posted by on 11/06 at 10:50 AMThis was a really good project to know this will be out there in 20 years is amazing. To know something we love is going to be out there.
Posted by on 11/06 at 10:56 AMI enjoyed this very much. I am looking forward to looking back in 20 years from now and reading what I posted. I think everyone should do this, it was fun.
Posted by on 11/06 at 11:00 AMi liked doing this project because it was interesting. I am glad that i will be able to look back in 20 years and see what was imporant to me.
Posted by on 11/06 at 11:01 AMI really think the time capsule was an awesome project to do. I must have spent an hour or two last night just looking at pictures on my computer trying to figure out what I should put into the capsule. In the end I decided to make a collage of the things I love. It contains pictures of Dan (my boyfriend) and I, my family, my bratty little cat, and my favorite cousin, Zoe. This activity has given me something that I can look back on 20 years from now and think “Jeez, what was I wearing?!?!” It’s technological and sentimental, not two words you usually hear together. Most people say that technological things have no sentimental value, but this does for me. I can not wait to show Dan, and the rest of my family this, they’ll definitely love it. I’m especially excited to show Zoe it when she gets older (she’s only 2 now). I think this activity was a great idea and lots of fun. It was most definitely a nice break from Guns Germs and Steel.
Posted by on 11/06 at 11:28 AMI think doing the time capsule was a great experience. Being able to look back at a picture or a poem or even a drawing in 20 years is very rewarding.
Posted by on 11/06 at 12:56 PMI guess this was fun. If i remember about the time capsule in 20 years, it might be a little more exciting because I will be able to see the changes that will most likely occur between now and the future. Hopefully i will remember because I want to be able to look back and see how i felt when i was in high school, and who had an impact in my life.
Posted by on 11/06 at 03:54 PMTime capsules are a way of capturing moments or events in time and storing them to look back on in the future. I would rather take photographs and preserve them in a photo album that I can share with my children someday because I feel it seems more real than on a computer. What this project has that a photo album does not is the opportunity to see what your classmates have shared and you can then understand or relate to them in a way that I have never thought of before.
Posted by on 11/06 at 06:39 PMThis was a fairly interesting project. It took me a long, long time to figure out what to put in the time capsule, but I eventually came up with something. I think it is great that my entry will always be in the time capsule. I know everybody says this, but I will honestly enjoy looking back at the fun times I had in high school.
Posted by on 11/07 at 08:08 AMI really enjoyed doing this time capsule project. At first I thought that this project would be easy, but it took me a while to think about what I actual wanted to put into it. I really look forward to looking back at this in 20 years. I also think this that it is a great opportunity to share things with the people in your school that might not know much about you.
Posted by on 11/07 at 08:14 AMI really enjoyed the idea of doing the timecapsule. At first, i wasn’t really into it but then i started really thinking about it. My grandfather means alot to me and sometimes it’s hard to remember him because he died when i was young. High school is full of many memories and i don’t ever want to forget them.
Posted by on 11/07 at 08:34 AMI was really excited to hear about the time capsule. I want to thank Mrs. Stangherlin for allowing us this opportunity to do it as well. I never thought a time capsule would be this fun, but I was wrong. I really enjoyed being able to put pictures of what I love, for everyone to see. I especially am excited to look back at this when I am older!
Posted by on 11/07 at 08:37 AMI thought the time capsule was a very good idea. I enjoyed doing them and i am very excited to know that i will be able to look back years from now and see the things that were important to me while i was i high school.
Posted by on 11/07 at 09:37 AMI thought the time capsule was a very good idea. I enjoyed doing it and I am very excited to know that I will be able to look back years from now and see the things that were important to me while I was in high school.
Posted by on 11/07 at 09:45 AMI like this time capsule stuff.like it is kind of a free spacefor your input...where people souldnt care what you put because its not their thoughts so it shouldnt matter...but hey..its fun..and it is a good idea to have something to look back to in the future and see..like a flashback of your past...these things are just like an insight to a life that you want people to see..and yeah..its pretty exciting to know itll still be there years from now.
Posted by on 11/07 at 09:53 AM
I did not like the timecapsule because it was done on the computers and I hate computers. I hope the english class becomoes less evolved around computers because it really does stink.
Posted by on 11/07 at 09:56 AMI didn’t really like this timecapsule because it is boring and it would be more fun if we did a timecapsule and put it in to the ground.
Posted by on 11/07 at 09:59 AMI really enjoyed this timecapsule project. I liked the idea of creating it on the computer instead of putting an object in a capsule that would just be buried in the groud. This project also assures you that no matter where you are when it is reopened that you will be able to retrieve your contribution easily.
Posted by on 11/07 at 11:14 AMI think the time capsule is a neat idea. It provides a way to save our memories which is nice, but I’d rather have a real one that I could put objects into too. Also, the limits make it hard to preserve everything you want to. It would be nicer if we had more space to put a bunch of different memories in.
Posted by on 11/07 at 11:17 AMI think that the time capsule is pretty cool. I like the idea that in 20 years I can go back to the time capsule and show my childeren. I like learning new things on computers in English class because I do not know where else I would learn them.
Posted by on 11/07 at 11:18 AMThe idea for a time capsule on the internet shows how far we have come as a society in technological areas. It provides a way for people all over the globe to contribute to one common capsule. I’m sure I will be proud 20 years from now when I look back and see my contribution. This was just a great opportunity for anyone.
Posted by on 11/07 at 11:25 AMI really like this time capsule assignment. It’s an interesting way to conserve a part of my teenage life and look back on it twenty years from now and reflect. I really want to see how my views are going to change over the next twenty years. When I look back on this assignment, I will see that I was a big Colts fan as a teenager and I will hopefully be a fan when I do look back on it. I think that this assignment is a valuable project for a teenager to do.
Posted by on 11/07 at 11:27 AMI think the time capsule is a nifty idea. It will be interesting to know what my classmates and I thought when I look back on it twenty years later. I love it. So much.
Posted by on 11/07 at 11:33 AMThis project was kind of cool I guess. I like using the computers in the classroom. It kinda prepares us for what we will be doing in the future. It amazes me that we will see what we did in english class 20 years from now and it always is a good way that we can keep a memory of some sort and look back and see that in 20 years. Its also pretty cool because we can show our kids 20 years from now and actually say that we had some work of art put into the time capsule. Pretty Cool.
Posted by on 11/07 at 12:40 PMI think the Time Capsule is a great idea that can be used to teach future generations about our personal lives in the year 2006. I hope to someday look back on this and find that I contributed to world history.
Posted by on 11/07 at 12:43 PMI think the Time Capsule was a great expirence. I got to show the world how creative I am along with the person the I love all in one picture. In 20 years I want my children to look and see pictures of me when i was younger.
Posted by on 11/07 at 12:54 PMThis time capsule thing was ok I guess. It was a little pointless in my eyes, considering that I don’t think I will ever come back and revisit what I contributed, but overall it was a good activity for everyone.
Posted by on 11/07 at 12:57 PMThis time capsule thing was descent. The activity was good and it was meant to portray a good cause, but overall it’s lacking relevance to anything. I doubt that I’ll go back and revisit any of the contributions.
Posted by on 11/07 at 01:01 PMI thought what I contributed was very trivial and irrelevant. There are so many things going on in the internet, I don’t see why someone would stop by Timecapsule to simply read what I contributed. What I contributed was a short statement of my belief, which is probably shared by many already.
Posted by on 11/07 at 02:32 PMI liked doing this project because it was somthing different than doing the same thing in class everyday. It made me think of wonderful memories in my lifetime. I is also cool that you can look back 20 years and see what you were doing.
Posted by on 11/08 at 08:36 AMthis will be something to look back on in many years to see the things that we used to do.
Posted by on 11/08 at 01:49 PMI submitted my picture and it said it took it but I couldn’t find it. I don’t like that some people got two of the same picture in but I can’t find mine. I wish my picture would be in the timecapsule.
Posted by on 11/08 at 01:52 PMI thought this project was very neat. It was very different from anything that I have ever done. I enjoy using a computer. I look forward to looking back on this in 20 years.
Posted by on 11/08 at 01:53 PMi thought this project was a good experience for all of us. it will be exciting to look back in 20 years to see how much my classmates and i have changed and see if we still love the things we love and still do the things we like to do.
Posted by on 11/09 at 08:06 AMWow, this is mad sweet. I can’t wait untill I can come see this in 20 years. It should be fun.
Posted by on 11/09 at 09:38 AMI tried to submit a picture for the time capsule but for some reason it wasn’t accepted. This program is weird how it only submits some project and not others. i did mine on anger, how the attack on the world trade center on 9/11 made me angry. If i could try this again i would do it on how this time capsule makes me angry.
Posted by on 11/09 at 10:01 AMI think the Time Capsule is an awesome idea. It’s a great because when the Time Capsule opens up again we can see what our friends and others put in there. It will bring back memories to share with our loved ones. Some of our opinions probably will change so it will be a neat experience! It’s cool that people from all over were able to add their own thoughts. I’m glad that we were able to participle in this project.
Posted by on 11/09 at 12:32 PMI thought the time capsule was pretty cool.
Posted by on 11/09 at 02:01 PMI feel like the time capsule was a great idea. It will be really interesting to look back on it 20 years and remember what you were talking about or think about the memory in the the picture you added. This was a great experience
Posted by on 11/09 at 02:01 PMI like the time capsule because I would like to look back at it and see how much I changed in 20 years.
Posted by on 11/09 at 02:04 PMsubmiting to the capsule was nice, and hopefully they see mine, when they re-open it peace.

Posted by on 11/09 at 02:09 PMi really enjoyed doing this time capsule becuase in 20 years i can reflect back to my high school years. thanks mrs.stangherlin for allowing us to be creative and opening our eyes to all the technology out there to benifet our learning.
Posted by on 11/13 at 10:28 AMWhat is a time capsule? I have to create a time capsule illustrating use of instructional technology, Time capsule exhibit using instructional technology(e.g., plan for 2025 opening). Do you have any ideas? All help is appreciated. Thanks
